Oh what a night....

So as you can see from the video I posted yesterday, Austin has learned to roll over. While he has been very close to doing so for awhile now, it seemed like it happened so suddenly and now he's rolling all over the place! It all started Monday morning when he woke up and when I went to get him out of the crib, a baby that usually sleeps on his tummy was smiling up at me from his back. He did it again when he woke from his afternoon nap yesterday so I put him on a mat on the floor and was determined to see it for myself. Sure enough, he rolled over 3 or 4 times until he got all tired out. I was so excited and happy that he reached this milestone and it was fun to watch his reaction when he learned something new. Little did I know, however, the problems that rolling over would cause!

Last night was the worst night weve had since Austin was only days old. He sleeps on his tummy where he is most comfortable but kept rolling over on his back and then screaming because he couldn't get back to his tummy to go to sleep! I had to continuously get up and roll him over and help soothe him to sleep in the middle of the night.

He got up for good around 6:30am and after a bottle, diaper change and a little play time, he fell back asleep in my arms. I put him down in his crib on his tummy and it started all over again! He kept rolling and waking himself up and then couldn't get comfortable and go back to sleep. After rolling him over a few times I finally remembered the infant positioner we had written off as useless in his first few weeks. I wedged him in on his belly and it seemed to do the trick. Austin and I both had about an hour nap with no interruptions!

We'll see if this continues to work, he hated the positioner when he was first born, but maybe he won't mind it as much now that he's bigger. If any of you readers out there have any other ideas on how to keep him from rolling all over the crib, please let me know! I'll be sure to update tomorrow on how tonight goes with the positioner in place. Wish us luck, and sleep!!
